Intact Financial Corporation Donates $10,000 for Community Building
Ottawa, ON, April 11, 2014 – Bill Davis, Regional Vice President of Intact Insurance recently presented a $10,000 donation to the Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre Foundation. These funds will go towards building awareness and understanding of the services offered in Eastern Ontario for those youth suffering from substance abuse and mental health issues keeping them from achieving a healthier lifestyle.
Mr. Davis commented, “the youth at-risk within our communities need our help and we believe in investing in the communities where our people live and work is the right thing to do.” In addition, Mr. Davis spoke to the importance of developing partnerships with charities in which their employees can spend time volunteering.
The $10,000 donation was presented at the offices of Smith Petrie Carr & Scott, where Brian Scott, President, spoke to the importance of the work of the Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre and supported the grant application to the Intact Foundation.
Thousands of youth in Ontario fall victim to drug and alcohol abuse each year. Left untreated, serious substance abuse during adolescence does interfere with and delays important developmental changes including physical, cognitive, emotional and social milestones. It can also lead to a lifetime of substance abuse if nothing is done. The funding, provided by the Intact Foundation, will go towards supporting the Community Engagement and Outreach program to help drive awareness of the services provided for those youth requiring more substantial treatment.
Glenn Barnes, President & CEO of the Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre, stated, “We are so very grateful to Intact Financial Corporation for recognizing the importance of the work we do in helping to bring hope to families and youth in crisis.”
