CIBC Shares Dave’s Dream
Ottawa, ON, June 5, 2014 – Dave’s Dream is a step closer to reality thanks to a generous donation from CIBC. Dave Smith was joined by representatives from CIBC for the announcement of a $25,000 commitment in support of the campaign to construct an all-new, 30-bed facility for the clients of the Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre.
The CIBC donation was presented at Nate’s Deli, where Dean Chapman, CIBC District Vice President, Ottawa District, and Gillian Schreiter, Branch Manager, CIBC Terry Fox & Fernbank Banking Centre, spoke to the importance of helping at-risk youth and their families overcome obstacles to create stronger futures.
“CIBC is committed to supporting causes that matter to our clients, our employees and our communities,” said Mr. Chapman. “With a focus on Kids, Cures and Community, we’re proud to support Dave’s Dream in building a better future for youth in our community.”
Thousands of youth in Ontario fall victim to drug and alcohol abuse each year. Left untreated, serious substance abuse during adolescence interferes with and delays important developmental changes including physical, cognitive, emotional and social milestones. Lack of treatment can also lead to a lifetime of substance abuse. That is where the work of the Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre comes in. The difference made in the lives of the youth served by the staff, volunteers, donors and community at large cannot be measured in dollars and cents but in the lives rebuilt, families reunited and personal potential reaffirmed.
Stephanie MacGregor, Executive Director of the Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre Foundation, stated, “The Centre has been helping at-risk youth in our community for over 20 years and has made great strides and changed lives for the better. We want to express our gratitude to CIBC for helping to build a groundswell of support for the work of the Centre and our vision of the future.”
