The Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre cares for approximately 160 youth and their families each year. Unfortunately this is not enough. There are more youth in need than we have beds to treat them. Our current buildings are aging, and in need of costly repairs, and the Carp Campus building lease is up. In addition, the three buildings were never designed or intended for use as residential treatment centres, especially for young people looking for a fresh start.
The ultimate legacy of the Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre may very well be the original vision of Dave Smith himself: to build a centralized substance abuse residential treatment centre for youth. No more multiple and disparate buildings – one efficient Centre of Excellence which will serve to support exceptional care that helps heal young lives and families.
As we all know, a building is often so much more than its walls. What happens within its walls is our raison d’être. The physical space of a residential treatment facility is the place young people will call home for 3 months. It is a place that needs to be safe, comfortable and therapeutic and must foster trust. This is our dream and the dream of so many in our communities. We hope you will join us in making this dream a reality.
